Bike rides

The castle is on the route of the Ardennes greenway, "La Meuse à vélo", which links Givet to Sedan via Charleville-Mézières.
This is a good opportunity to cycle along the Meuse, discovering beautiful landscapes and strolling wherever you like.
Boats and cruises
The Château de Wallerand offers you the opportunity to take to the sea on an electric boat. You will sail on the Meuse to discover the richness of the region, observe the operation of the locks and admire the landscapes passing before your eyes.
Different types of packages can be offered. For example, you can take a gourmet picnic prepared by our chef on board the boat.
To discover the meandering Meuse, you can also opt for a "Charlemagne" cruise, a canoeing trip or a rowing trip. The castle will then direct you to external partners.
Hiking
On the edge of the village of Vireux-Wallerand, you will enter the Ardennes Regional Nature Park. These places are perfect for walking and discovering landscapes, biotope, legends, fortifications and animals.
For the amateurs, hunting is also allowed during the opening dates given by the Office National de la Chasse et de la Faune Sauvage (ONCFS).
Another possibility for a nice stroll for lovers, family or friends: the Ardennes Greenway, a specially designed circuit along the Meuse for hikers, runners and cyclists.

Sites and monuments
Hierges
Located barely 5 minutes from Vireux-Wallerand, the charming village of Hierges takes you back in time, as you wander through its narrow streets lined with old houses.
This medieval town is overlooked by the ruins of the Mosan Renaissance-style castle, whose surrounding walls are still standing today and are topped by large towers.
Givet
Situated on the banks of the Meuse, a stone's throw from the Belgian border, the small town of Givet is sure to charm history, photography and nature lovers. Givet offers an idyllic setting and beautiful buildings such as the Fort de Charlemont, the Ford Condé, the Tour Victoire or the Tour Grégoire.
Grotte de Nichet
Would you like to immerse yourself in the Ardennes legends and discover a little more about the history of the region? Go to the Grotte de Nichet, located about twenty minutes drive from Vireux-Wallerand.
You can admire stalactites and stalagmites in a dozen rooms with mysterious names (Nutons, Skeleton, Moonlight or Lovers room).
Charleville-Mézières
A place of art and history, Charleville-Mézières is a city characterised by baroque architecture, a rich history and a strong cultural imprint. The city of Arthur Rimbaud, you will find a museum dedicated to his work and numerous references throughout the city.
Every two years, Charleville-Mézières also hosts the World Festival of Puppet Theatres, an event not to be missed.
Dinant
The Château de Wallerand is located about 30 minutes from Dinant. A Belgian town in the Walloon region known for its citadel, Dinant is a perfect destination for a romantic weekend in the Belgian Ardennes.
Here you can enjoy leisure activities on the Meuse such as a cruise, a kayak trip or a trip in a small boat without a licence. From a cultural point of view, you can visit the various castles surrounding the city and the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Leffe.
Reims
If you wish to visit the Champagne-Ardenne region, note that Reims is located a little less than 2 hours from the Château de Wallerand. Many champagne producers will be able to welcome you for tastings, a visit of the vineyards and the purchase of bottles and regional products.
